“How to Make Spinach Pie in the Oven with a Simple Recipe”
Spinach pie and other types of pastry are consumed almost at any time of the day. They are enjoyed during ladies’ gatherings, breakfasts before going to work in the morning, and as appetizers. Now, let’s move on to our recipe for spinach pie.
Ingredients:
5 sheets of ready-made phyllo dough.
1 medium-sized onion.
1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (6 grams).
1 kilogram of spinach.
1 teaspoon of salt (4 grams).
2 cups of milk (400 ml).
2 eggs.
1/2 cup of vegetable oil (65 ml).
1 tablespoon of nigella seeds or sesame seeds.
For the sauce between layers:
In a deep bowl, mix 2 cups of milk (400 ml), 2 eggs, and half a cup of vegetable oil (65 ml). (Apply this mixture between the layers of phyllo dough and on the top layer.)
Filling:
Spinach is a plant that grows close to the ground, and during irrigation, it can gather dust from the soil. Therefore, spinach should be washed carefully with water before use, preferably in a few batches.
In a pan, sauté finely chopped onions with a little oil. Once the onions are translucent, add the spinach and continue sautéing until the spinach wilts. After the spinach softens, add the spices: red pepper flakes (6 grams) and salt (4 grams). Mix well and set aside to cool.
Preparation:
1. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and lightly grease it with just enough vegetable oil to make it shine.
2. Place the first sheet of phyllo pastry on the greased parchment paper and brush it with the prepared milk-oil mixture using a pastry brush.
3. Add another layer of phyllo pastry on top of the first one and brush it with the milk-oil mixture again.
4. Spread the prepared spinach and onion mixture evenly over the second layer.
5. Place the third sheet of phyllo pastry on top of the spinach layer and evenly distribute the milk-oil mixture using a pastry brush.
6. Repeat this process with the fourth and fifth sheets of phyllo pastry, brushing each layer with the milk-oil-egg mixture. Use the remaining mixture to brush the top layer, then sprinkle sesame seeds or nigella seeds on top.
7. Place the prepared börek in an oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) and bake for about half an hour until golden brown.
Note: If you find that the filling and the mixture used between the layers are not sufficient according to your preference, you can prepare smaller quantities again as needed.
Enjoy your meal! 🙂
